This week's entry into Friday Fictioneers isn't terribly inspired, but it will do. Sometime's it's just like that, you know? Please join us!
Just Like Candy!
“Oh, Sweetie, know what you can do with those? You can stack them just like this –“ She began rolling the towels into logs and
inserting them into the closet according to hue. “And then we’ll go out here—“ she clomped out
into the living room in her cherry-red high heels, thrusting her rear out as
she bent from the waist in a calendar-girl pose. “—and fan out
these magazines in an in-VI-ting array!”
“But the old batteries in a jar?” I folded my arms into my sweatshirt - Oscar to her Felix.
“Just like candy!”

Could she come help me when I'm staging the house for sale? Can't say I have batteries, but I'm sure she could find something to put in a bottle. :-)
Love the cherry-red high heels and the calendar-girl pose.
Now that's an idea!
:-)
Love the narrators response to the "organizer." Also, love the contrast between the two.
Nicely done.
A fun, well organized little tale. I liked my Oscar to her Felix...I can o relate.
I liked this, Cindy - really good characterisation!
I didn't get the Oscar & Felix reference, perhaps a cultural thing (I did go and look it up, though, and now understand!)
I really hope cherry-red shoes lady comes to stay with me - lots to sort and arrange, here!!
Very nice. I like the candy allusion
Good job of developing real characters in very few words. I can visualize the calendar girl pose. Well done. Ron
Ha! That was fun to read. I can see her!
some of that should be written in red ink. ;)
Joanna, you must just be too young to know of Oscar and Felix. :-) Janet, I think probably the quirky decorating of this character might not be what the real estate people have in mind. Waiting, thanks for appreciating the difference between the characters. I wasn't sure how to make the narrator--I didn't want a husband, so I tried to make it a roommate with the Oscar/Felix thing.
Thanks for commenting, also, Abraham, Boomie, Rochelle, Reading Pleasure, Anonymous, Dancing, and Rich!
That lady reminds me of Mrs. Wiggins on the Carol Burnett show. Tight dress that made her bend over while she walked. SO cute.
There is something about the relationship of batteries to candy....Good color accent, however.
Had to read twice... I can now picture the realtor going thru the house... In fact, I can picture a few I know by your descriptive tale.
Oh, Shirley, that's funny--Mrs. "Huh-WIGgins!" :-) I was thinking a bit cuter than that. And Ted, I didn't have a real estate agent in mind at all, but I can certainly see it, especially after Janet's comment! Thanks for our comment, too VB.
Dear Cindy,
I love these characters and their at odds world views. Nicely rendered.
Aloha,
Doug
