Friday Fictioneers: "The Plans"

I believe this is my fifth entry for Friday Fictioneers. I highly recommend it!  Click the link and play with us!

The Plans

"They're all sparkly and gossamer and filmy and romantic!" she swooned, spinning around and hugging herself.

"But in some people's minds--most people's minds--they're creepy," the mother answered. "They have associations of death and haunted houses and witches--"

"--Or fairies and gardens and roses," The lovestruck girl replied quickly.  "And we can have little spiders--the friendly kind--to hang down from them."

"Now wait a minute!  Spiderwebs with dew I can handle, and a garden theme, but let's have some butterflies and pansies, not actual spiders!"

"Whose wedding IS this, anyway?" the girl glared darkly, fists on her hips.

And so began the weaving of plans.

110 words

My oldest daughter got engaged last week, and we've just spent several hours doing wedding gown shopping. I see a tiny bit of her in this character, but all in all she's delightful to plan with, and we have a peacock theme, not a spider theme. No "bridezillas" here . . . yet.  :-)

Not my idea of a wedding theme, but different strokes. Might be a bit difficult to get real spiders to hang down on order, though. :-) I like the weaving of the plans to tie it all together.

Boy, Janet, you're quick! And I'll have you know--that awful infestation of spiders you saw at our house that first year we lived here has never been repeated. :-)

Cindy, first congratulations. This made me laugh. As a cake decorator I've seen spiders on wedding cakes. A couple of years ago one bride's theme was Nightmare before Christmas and I drew webs all over the cake. It was actually kind of cute. So was your story.

Delightful read and wonderful example of how giddy a bride-to-be can become that even the most incongruous things are magical and wonderful and oh so fantabulous.

And just who are weddings for anyway? The bride's mother? She should have everything she wants! Nice story, too. Even if you did have to go over your allotment of words! Oh, and congrats!

Congratulations on your daughter's up coming wedding. I love your take on this. Very touching and romantic story. I love it. May I say that , spiders always find their ways into our paths, just that we are not aware? Mine is here

Dear Cindy,

A pleasant surprise woven in one hundred words. Great ending to an initially mysterious, but finally happy story.

Thanks for the additional comments, y'all! Alas, I missed last week's story, but I DO have the wedding to plan for! :-)
