Friday Fictioneers: "Press Conference"

This is a weird photo prompt, and many of the contributors to Friday Fictioneers have puzzled over it.  Here's what I did with it.  Click the link above to see what the others did with it, and maybe try your own version!

Press Conference

“After a few adjustments we are proud to unveil the Municipal Monument.  As you know,” the Mayor brightly assured us, her hot pink blazer glowing in the noon sun.  “As you know, we wanted to give as many local Artists as possible the opportunity to contribute to the Monument. It is a tribute to our diverse populace, friendly to all.”

I turned to interview one of the contributors, a musky heap of burlap in huaraches, who chuckled, “Yeah, I started a great nude diving into the wall, but they made me change it into a hand. Yeah, that’s me below.”

:-) You gave me another Fictioneers chuckle reading this. I like your "musky heap of burlap in huaraches" and the nod to what the public might think vs. artistic license.

Did you mean to have the Mayor say "As you know" twice? And I think you just want "artists", not "Artists".

Wow, I've read so many stories this morning which is enjoyable, but I'm almost afraid to refresh the page because there might be another story. I think I'll check back later in the day!

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Once more, Cindy thank you for your comments and this delightful story. I believe I attended the KC Art Institute with that heap of burlap in huaraches.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Janet and Rochelle, you're quick this morning! Thanks for your comments. Janet, I did mean to capitalize "artists" and the "Monument" thing as well as have her repeat herself. I was thinking of a bit of Tom Wolfe caricature conveyed subtly through typography rather than just the sounds of the words--or at least the typography conveying the sounds. Can't you hear her emphasizing those Very Important Words? ;-) But it's good to know it didn't quite come off with you--that's useful feedback!

Rochelle, I knew that guy would be recognizable! ;-)

As usual, I've been so impressed with what others have done with this story. I don't get to all of them, Janet, but I do my five "contiguous posts" and skip around among the others, and I always do yours! ;-)

Thanks again!

Hi Cindy,
Wish he would have finished the nude, unless he was the model for it! You came up with a different and creative take. Reminded me of one of my favorite TV shows, Parks and Rec! Ron

Cindy Marsch said...

Thanks, Williams! Ron, it must have been subliminal -- I watched a couple of episodes of P&R for the first time a couple of weeks ago. ;-)
